A RIVER ON FIRE! Gas explodes from an Australian river near a fracking site.
Fracking and the dependence on fossil fuel energy have exposed humans and nature to hazardous chemicals, environmental pollution and accelerated climate change. Short-sighted energy policies have created a climate crisis, putting the well-being of current and future generations at risk.
Fracking pumps toxic chemicals deep into the earth to release trapped gas. Harmful chemicals and gases leach into the water supply, the land, and the atmosphere as greenhouse gas emissions. Fracking causes the degradation of environmental health and public health. Its practice contradicts the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reverse global warming. It directly threatens the creation of climate-resilient communities and environments and we demand it ends for good.
We are dedicated to facilitating the transition to sustainable, renewable, clean and safe energies and economies by supporting affected communities to protect their land ownership rights and collaborating with key stakeholders to transition to more sustainable practices.
First Nation people and other Australian landowners are being stripped of their sovereign right to say ‘No’ to fracking on their land. We will collaborate with First Nation people, other landowners and communities to establish the most effective mechanisms that support them to protect their landowner rights and say ‘No’ to fracking.
We will hold gas companies to account so that they take responsibility for repairing the damage already done. We will also collaborate with gas companies and other key stakeholders to innovate ways to expedite a transition to clean energy systems and economies.
We seek a total ban on fracking in Australia, calling on Federal and State governments to refrain from authorising or executing fracking due to its contributions to greenhouse gas emissions, and the potential for irreversible damage to the environment and public health.
